New target explored for psychiatric drug development

In a surprising discovery, neuroscientists, led by a team from the School of Medicine, have found a molecule that is a breakdown product of cholesterol in the brain may be a target for developing new drugs to treat schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.

Former presidential candidate Huntsman to discuss nation’s opportunities, challenges

Former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman Jr. will assess our nation’s status in an Assembly Series presentation, titled “Opportunities and Challenges Facing America Today.” The talk will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Graham Chapel on the Danforth Campus.

Juniors win international physics competition by envisioning extraterrestrial animal

A team of juniors in Arts & Sciences learned last month that they won the gold medal for their analysis of a problem during the international University Physics Competition, held in November. Using principles of physics, they predicted characteristics of an animal on an extraterrestrial planet.

Carter Revard, PhD, professor emeritus of English, has released a new poetry collection, “From the Extinct Volcano, A Bird of Paradise.” He is reading from it this week in New Mexico and in April in St. Louis.

WUSTL has moved up five spots on the Peace Corps’ annual list of the top volunteer-producing midsized colleges and universities across the country. With 21 alumni currently serving overseas as Peace Corps volunteers, WUSTL ranks No. 13.
